International Style (Architecture)

June 4, 2007 by sachinskg

During the 1920s and 1930s, there was a worldwide movement towards modern concepts, ideas and styles. Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Philip Johnson published a book that observed, differentiated and developed upon characteristics commonly encountered in modernism across the globe. The book mainly concentrated on the stylistic aspects of modernism. The name of the book was the genesis of a new architectural style called the International Style, which was essentially a style that rode the modernization wave and implemented modernism in architecture across the world. The term International Style is often referenced with the buildings and architects of the decades prior to World War II.
