Bungalow with a Loft
Contrary to the usual definition of a bungalow, bungalow with a loft or attic uses the second story. The loft is usually placed next to a big, multi-functional room (possibly over the garage) with an arched ceiling, and not expected to be used everyday. As the main living areas of such a house are still conveniently located on one story, the house is commonly referred to as a bungalow with loft.
Occasionally, such houses have additional bedrooms in the loft, thereby adding on half a functional story and cannot be categorized as bungalows. In British English, such houses are referred to as chalet bungalow or dormer bungalow.
Since the loft is not used in traditional bungalows, the roof pitch (determined only by the snow load) can be fairly low.
